Smyrna is a small town in Rutherford County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 53,070 at the 2010 census. It was ranked as one of the best places to retire in 2007 by U.S. News & World Report. It is part of the Nashville, Tennessee, metropolitan statistical area. This Tennessee town is home to the Nissan Smyrna Assembly Plant, which is the largest automotive assembly plant in the US. It began manufacturing cars in 1983 and has since manufactured more than 10 million vehicles. In 2012, the Nissan Leaf battery was introduced at the Smyrna Assembly Plant. In addition to Nissan Leafs, this plant also assembles five other models. It is 20 minutes from Nashville, and so is this community. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of events in the town.

Smyrna is home to Nissan North America. The car manufacturer began production in Smyrna in 1983, becoming the first major automotive manufacturer in Tennessee. Today, the plant employs upwards of 7000 people and is a major source of economic development in the area. The local tourism industry benefits from the factory's successful production.
